Battlestar 3

The new season of Battlestar comes out in October.
A preview of this is here.

This is easily the best show on television. If you haven't seen it, check it out on DVD.

Brick

Film Noir

Film Noir movies eventually became cliche's of themselves. Imagine a cool film like Pulp Fiction and then imagine the formula copied by half of the new movies. I love the classics like the Maltese Falcon but I am glad the genre died away.

Brick is an attempt at modern film noir. The problem I had was that it falls into the same cliches and does so on purpose. I do like the attempt of this genre in a modern setting. You need to take these films with a grain of salt. They are not realistic and perhaps stray from realism more than most Hollywood films save Sci Fi and fantasy.

Is Brick worth seeing? I think it is. Perhaps rent the Maltese Falcon at the same time to compare the films. Brick brings some amazing imagery to life in a very frightening way. The tunnel scene comes to mind here.

This film is getting some huge buzz. I went to Borders last night and they had a special section just with copies of this film.

Studio 60

NBC released the pilot of this show on DVD before the show is going to air. That's a good idea. Any show Sorkin does I will watch after West Wing became one of the best shows ever made.
Studio 60 is the latest Sorkin Show. It has three cast members from the West Wing and adds Mathew Perry and Amanda Peet.

I just watched the pilot and I am impressed. This is basically a behind the scenes of Saturday Night Live type show. It looks like fun. Mathew Perry did some West Wing episodes so he plays well off of Bradley Whitford. Amanda Peet keeps getting better as an actress. This will probably be her breakout role.

If you have Netflix check it out. It is on the same disk as Kidnapped which also has potential.

The Departed

This movie has potential. It is an Asian remake of a fairly confusing film. This could be good or messy. It looks like it takes place in Boston.
