Easter

Easter was fun as usual. We went to a nice all you can eat brunch where I had more cheesecake and strawberry waffles than I care to admit. We also had an egg hunt and played some volleyball.

Walking Alarm Clock

Scientists at MIT's Media Lab in the United States have invented an alarm clock called Clocky to make even the doziest sleepers, who repeatedly hit the snooze button, leap out of bed.

After the snooze button is pressed, the clock, which is equipped with a set of wheels, rolls off the table to another part of the room.

"When the alarm sounds again, simply finding Clocky ought to be strenuous enough to prevent even the doziest owner from going back to sleep," New Scientist magazine said Tuesday.

Good News!

This is great news and motivation for me to get healthy!
------
"This is not the first study to demonstrate potential health benefits of dark chocolate, which contains high levels of a kind of antioxidant called flavonoids. Research shows that flavonoids that can help maintain a healthy heart and good circulation and reduce blood clotting, which can lead to heart attacks and stroke."

"Ferri's team found that after eating dark chocolate, participants' blood pressure decreased, and they showed improvements in insulin sensitivity, meaning they were better able to metabolize glucose (sugar), according to the report in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition."

Queer Eye visits the Red Sox

One of the best shows on TV is currently filming in Florida with the Boston Red Sox.
Queer Eye for the Staright Guy is taking five Red Sox players and making them look a bit more stylish. I can't wait to see this. Queer Eye is a great show and add the Red Sox and you have the television event of the Summer.

``That is one hot little baseball player,'' declared Carson, ``Work the runway. Come on Dougie, do it for me.'' Looks like Marabellie was his favorite.

Lost recaps that are a little odd: Funny lost recaps
---------------------------------------------
So anyways its time to dig out from another storm and get my car as there were two parkings bans in a row. Hopefully this ends this winter's bombardment of snow.
In reality I would rather have a ton of snow than the bitter cold we had last year.
I walk an hour a day normally and that cold was brutal. The snow is actually nice because it covers the ever present layer of ice on the sidewalks.

here is another funny one: The back says you just have to outrun the halfling:

Russia weather and Maine weather

When Russia recently got 3 feet of snow the mayor said he will fine the Moscow Meteorologists if they make those kinds of mistakes again. This guy is actually obsessed with the weather. I guess thats better than other things.

We got some snow over the weekend as well. This has been a crazy winter.

Vampire Finches and Wonder Years

His Words recently had a book review. What I found funny was that the co-author took the time to respond to his review. Funny stuff.

Ever wonder why great shows like the Wonder years are not on DVD?
It appears that shows with a lot of music have to pay royalties to the music companies. This is why music heavy shows are unable to be on DVD. WKRP is another.
This is too bad as this is easily one of my favorite shows.

Vampire Finches
The Galapagos islands are an amazing place. On just one of the islands finches have over the years evolved by drinking blood from birds. This is just one of the isolated islands this has happened. I saw this on a nature show recently and thought it kinda gross. Here you have a common finch, looks cute, chirps, has pretty red feathers, but its actually a vampire finch! The nature show filmed the finches wiping out some cute puffy baby birds that could not defend themselves and then coming back eating the maggots. In a cruel twist of fate these finches, which Darwin used as his prime evolution example, are now being wiped out by a nasty vampire maggot. Researchers have begun fumigating some islands.
What will eventually occur, most experts say, is that bird flu will hit the islands and wipe out the birds, like what occured in Hawaii.

My bad, I guess the red feathers I saw was just because the little guy was covered in blood after he had his dinner.

Lost

Just spent too much time looking at van valkenburgh sites on the internet. It's odd how other members of the van valkenburgh family are doing. Anyways, now to something important:

Lost

The best show on tv at the moment. I am going to write a bit on it until I get bored which is what I normally do:

By the end of the season one of the major cast members of Lost will die. The interesting thing about this is that none of the cast members know who it will be. They all go to work knowing that one of them will not be back for season 2.

Lost is the best television show for a long time. There are some great shows right now: Simpsons, 24, Alias, Battlestar Galactica to name a few. Lost is in its own league right now. Each episode is better than many good movies I have seen this year.

I am going to discuss a couple of theories here and ask some questions that have no doubt come up for everyone who is into the show.
-------------------------------------------

  • What killed the pilot and what did it do to Locke?
  • What happened to Jack's father's corpse?
  • Who's skeletons were found near the stream and what are those black stones?
  • Why is the baby so deadly and will the dream of Locke standing over the crib he made in episode 19 covered in blood come true?
  • What does Locke mean when he says to Sayid "On our side."
  • Where was Claire, why did the mysterious person try to take her baby and Polar bears?
  • Who is the man Kate loved and why did she kill him.

What do I think? Well first of all Locke is too heroic but there are too many hints of him turning evil. He's a great character, a man who was in a wheelchair and can suddenly walk when they come to this islands. His episode, episode 4, was one of the best television episodes ever.

My guess is there will be some sort of a "civil war" with Locke leading one side and Jack the other. Jack showing Locke the four guns was a bad idea. Something got to Locke early on and we already know the previous island residents killed each other.

I also think the young Walt, who looks up to Locke and can somehow conjure animals from nowhere, will play a larger role. perhaps he will be torn between his father and Locke. Locke is slowly gathering his army and could become one of the smartest "bad guys" ever. There is ofcourse the chance I am totally wrong about this as I did not read this anywhere but just guessed it.
