Sox Parade

Today the Red Sox had a parade in Boston in celebration of their victory. It is estimated that as many as 5 million would attend.

It seems most people were unable to get a hold of any newspapers the day after the victory. As an example one of my roomates manages a local store. He never received his papers. If you go on ebay you will see plenty for sale. I'm guessing there are some rich paper boys out there.

This is a ticket to the game the other night, just Joel's used stub. These have been going for 200-400 all day on ebay, kinda crazy.

Red Sox Pictures

I have a few pictures from game 2. I did not go but gave my camera to Joel. Tickets were going for 2,000.00 and up if you could get any. I think it's worth it tho. I'll post some more shortly. Joel has a very nice Uncle who gave him the ticket of a lifetime. These must be the most sought after tickets ever for American sports.

Sox!

It's amazing that the Sox beat the Yankees. I am saddened that one girl died in Boston while celebrating. Things will be crazy if they win the world series, especially if they win in game seven. Anyways this is great news. Bring on the soon to be losing Astros or Cardinals. They can't handle the Tim Wakefield knuckler! Here is a nice writeup about the sox: Sox!

This is a must watch

Michael Moore meets Lord of the Rings. This is great!

9th inning. Red Sox are about to win it! Good Bye Yankees!

Red Sox-Yankees Game 7

Game Seven will be tonight at 8:00PM

I like how they had to bring out riot police to protect the Red Sox players from the hostile crowd. A-rod has been pulling his dirty baserunning tricks all year. This is just the first time he was caught. It is not uncommon for him to punch the shortstop when "breaking up" a double play. Good umping tonight.

My new Favorite Web Site

This site is quickly becoming my favorite site. I have made two purchases this week. You really need to watch this as many offers last only a few hours. I just picked up a nice flatscreen monitor from Dell, the same ones we use in the office.
Great deals Every day

Red Sox Game 6

Tonight is the night for baseball history. The Red Sox can come back from a 0-3 playoff start. If they win tonight then tomorrow night will be huge.

Last night's game was amazing. Another walk off victory.

Martha Stewart talks

Poor Martha, well not really. She was caught insider trading and lying. The fact that she was a stockbroker and knew these rules does not help her. Atleast you can see what's she's up to at Martha Stuart Talks

Sean Penn and Team America

This is a letter Sean Penn sent the creators of Team America: Letter

Team America

The best comedy this year and destined to be considered one of the better comedies of all time. The theater was filled with laughter(Grimmay ofcourse was out of control which I believe was started during the Spongebob trailer). We saw the film the week before it hit theaters so we were with some pretty hardcore fans.
I guess what makes this film so special is that it never lets up. As expected it is graphic to the point of being obscene, but this movie succeeds mostly because of it's originality (and graphic depictions). The puppets are too funny. The makers of this film decided to not even try to make the puppets move in a realistic manner. The strings are not edited out. It really is funny just to watch them walk, let alone pull off the funniest sex scene ever.
Yes this film is vulgar, not politically correct, offensive etc but it's all in good fun. The sets are quite good, the voice acting is funny, and the music is hysterical. There was hardly a dull moment.

Love Actually

A recent rental, Love Actually is written and directed by Richard Curtis. I love everything he has done(Mr. Bean, Black Adder, Four Weddings, Notting Hill, -screenplay for Bridget Jones Diary). This is kind of a date movie, it's full of gooshy, cheesy love scenes that if done by anyone else I would have instantly changed the station or put in a nice action DVD. Like Curtis's other films, the characters are so interesting and well written that the eventually cheesy scenes succeed with the emotional impact they were intended to. It doesn't hurt to have more big named actors and cameos than any other film that year. I also think this is one of the better directed films I've seen in awhile. I hope Curtis continues to direct his own stories.

In the Mood for Love

One of my original goals of this blog was to review films. I'm like 60 films behind at the very least. Here is one that stands out. This is a basic love story set somewhere in Asia. I cannot for the life of me remember where, I think Hong Kong but perhaps China or Korea. The story follows two married couples who basically fall in love with each other's spouses. One of the new couples ends up together where the other couple does the "right" thing and goes their own ways only to eventually attempt to find each other. For years they have many tragic near misses. I would highly recommend this film. It is simple but well made and acted.

Tubby is back!

I have a bunch of silly things like this from my old site. The problem is I could never figure out how to get my java picture movies running. They are pretty funny too, maybe someday I'll figure out why they did not transfer from one web host to the other. Here's Tubby without the mini movie.

Team America and Bubba

Here is a quick copy of a newstory:

"Bubba Ho–Tep" (now showing at select cinemas across the UK) is without a doubt one of the year‘s most enjoyable movies and, according to our exclusive chat with director Don Coscarelli, fans of this tale of an aged Elvis battling an Egyptian mummy can expect to see the King of Rock n Roll taking on some more supernatural foes in a follow–up.

We asked him outright if he and leading man Bruce Campbell are set to bring the rumoured "Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She Vampires" to the silver screen anytime soon; "My sources say yes. Things are looking quite good. MGM was very happy with the results in the States, the UK‘s looking very solid, there‘s a lot of fan interest in it – and Bruce would love to play some more of the old hound dog! So there‘s a good chance we actually will make that film." However don‘t expect filming to kick off any time soon as Coscarelli has yet to come up with anything other than the title, "There is no story (yet) so we‘re gonna try and cook up something good…hard to say (when), but as soon as we can."

I for one would love to see a good sequel to this great movie that never quite made it to Maine.

On a simliar note the new Star Wars Trailer will be out soon. I am not going to waste my money on seeing this film but for those interested in a quick bit on what will be out soon.

Thanks Ben for giving me the web site for the site tracker software. So far I have gotten visits to my site when people type Jackie, that 70's show blueberry pie, Vinnie t's of portland, Thacians, camera phones in Maine, slingblade sounboards, dodgeball league pictures, and thats it for now. Nothing perverted like what Lynn gets. I bet if I mix some headings to something a little more risque and throw in Dodgeballs and blueberry pies I may get some interesting results!

Gamers

I came accross a nice site today that lets you download many older PC games.
I downloaded a couple and ran them without any problems as long as you have an unzip file. Getting sound to work can be a bit tricky but it's fun to fool around with DOS again. Free Classic Games

This is by no means a complete collection but is perfectly legal. I would recommend Ultima 6 and 7 as well as Betrayal at Krondor then Conquest of the Longbow and Day of the Tentacle. I believe Ultima 7 used expanded memory, a short lived nightmare. I'll test it to see if it's compatible with today's systems.
I found a program that allows you to run ultima 7 along with it's sequel. Exult

King's Quest

Some of you may have played these games with me way back in the early 80's. King's Quest 1 and 2 have been remade in 2003, the same games just newer graphics etc and they are free. Installing these is easy(you may need to use an unzip file) and may bring back some memories of Poor Sir Graham dying in many unfortunate ways. I have noticed they added many more death scenes. I played through King's Quest 1 before learning how to save games. Every death meant a restart.

To install make sure you click on the VGA versions.

I do not agree with this list of scariest movie scenes ever but take a look and hopefully you have a pop up blocker on. Scariest?
Most of these are shock or gore type scary. I do not think those are scary at all. Something like the tent scene from the Blair Which Project is easily the scariest scene ever IMO. Deliverance was a very well made and scary film. A Nightmare on Elm Street also succeded when Freddy wasn't being silly. The Sixth Sense had it's moments as well.

This list is not funny but nevertheless has some useful info:

Crush the Enemy!

Ahhh Arnold,

One of the funniest actors ever due to his one liners, charisma, and ability to make people laugh while laughing at him. It is no doubt that Schwarzenegger is a giant of a man from his bodybuilding days, investment success, acting and political success. Watching Conan the Barbarian on DVD with the audio commentary turned on is one of the funniest things I've heard in years.

Arnold for president? I read a reuters story today that thinks he may.

The U.S. Constitution bars foreign-born Americans, who include figures such as Schwarzenegger and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, from becoming president.

Legislators are debating allowing foreign born Americans to become president. I think they should as long as the person has lived here fro a long time. The law was originally put into place to make it so we would not have an English or French president during the post colonial days.

Arnold will need to really prove himself in California before they allow him to be president, or even want him as president. Reagan did it only after his great success in California. Arnold has a long ways to go.

Brian and Kimmay!

I noticed some new pictures of their house being built.
Hopefully it's nice and big for lots of get togethers, sports games, gaming sessions till 4am, snowmobile riding/ice fishing weekends followed by some sledding. I know Kimmay is excited by all these possibilities!

Sky Captain
Yawn,
What's this a cgi movie? Oh great. From reading my earlier reviews it's pretty obvious that I am not a fan of CGI films. For starters they are not cheap to make at this point. Why not spend the money on sets? Actors have to act off green screens making the performances look and feel fake because they are.
Any pixar movie would put Sky Captain to shame from a technology point of view. It looks more like a Roger Rabit type film than a state of the art CGI picture.

Whats good? Well the story and concept are not bad. I was almost starting to like this film by the end. The story is original and witty. The fictional historical concept is also very original. The setting is 1940ish America where apparently no WWII has taken place. The action and special effects are from a 1940 perspective.

Whats Bad? Complete logic gaps that even I noticed. As an example Angelina Jolie says "There is an island that just showed up on radar that we have never seen before." Then a couple minutes later she says "Luckily I know of a secret entrance under the island." Umm yea, thanks Angelina. You're hot but not that smart. There were many examples like this.
The acting was also not all that good. Paltrow was very bad as was Jolie and Ribisi. Juse Law was ok. The characters were not deep. I liked the camera jokes of Paltrow but they were too few and far between.

Cool Phone

I was teaching myself some things and merged some pictures.

Bad milkshake leads to bombing

A bad milkshake at a Florida McDonald's restaurant led three men to set off an improvised bomb in revenge.
Pedro Garza, and brothers Joshua and Nathaniel, all face felony charges of making and discharging a destructive device.
Sheriffs said the men let off an improvised "acid bomb" inside a North Lakeland McDonald's because they got a bad milkshake a few days before.
Joshua and Nathaniel Hackey, are both members of the US military, says The Ledger.
Investigators say the men mixed toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum foil in a plastic drinks bottle. The men then capped the bottle and left the restaurant, with the concoction still sitting on the table. It exploded some time later.
When the device went off, most of its contents splattered against a wall and not across the aisle where a customer was sitting.

Something about this article scares me:

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Government experts are investigating a claim that an unarmed nuclear bomb, lost off the Georgia coast at the height of the Cold War, might have been found, an Air Force spokesman said Monday.

That would have been a good day to take off

Another Weekend

I'm getting a bit lazy on the posting of late. I'm pretty busy during the week and seem to ony have time during the weekends. Not much exciting occured this week. I played the weekly dodgeball game which is an awesome game. It has brought back my love for competitive sports leagues. I only wish we had done kickball as well )

I still feel a bit geeky bringing a camera around with me everywhere so I don't get all the pictures that maybe I should. Maybe this weekend as I may go back to my old College(Saint Anselm College). It is a beautiful place and would be a nice trip down memory lane.

I am also getting ready for the upcoming Maine Winter. We have a very bad apartment in that we lose a lot of heat due to lack of storm windows and an in general older building. It will cost $350 a month to heat our apartment I am estimating during the colder months. Oil is very expensive this year as you might be able to guess, double the price from last year. Renting an apartment with heat and hot water included is looking kind of temtping.

Silly Stuff

This is a news excerpt: I hate it when people do things like this and sue in general. This is the true mark of a shallow human being. All this does is make corporations charge more for products.

Michael Strauss, of Chicago, filed suit on Wednesday against the burger company, alleging he suffered "great pain and anguish in mind and body" when he bit into an onion ring two years ago and "scalding hot grease splattered out and onto" his arm, "scalding and severely burning him."
The suit comes almost 10 years after a jury awarded more than $2 million to a woman who sued McDonald's after scalding hot coffee spilled in her lap. A judge later cut the award to $500,000, but the case became a staple for those citing the need for reforms in the legal system.
In 2002, a Las Vegas taco chain was sued for providing nacho cheese that burned a child. More recently, fast-food restaurants have become the target of suits filed by customers who say they became obese because they ate too much food from restaurants that didn't warn them of such side effects.

This is Scary

HOUSTON -- It's not quite Scream 3, but there was a real heart-stopper on the screen at a Houston movie-plex.
An 8-foot snake, believed to be a Burmese python, was slithering in front of one of the screens. The roving reptile scared a janitor, but it, too, was so scared, it slithered away and hasn't been seen since.
The theater owner said it won't be showing any flicks until a professional snake-catcher goes in and gets the critter out of the building.
Among the movies playing at the Tinseltown theater is the horror-thriller "Anacondas."

Police in Idaho report a confused senior citizen drove a rented minivan through the terminal at Boise Airport. The woman apparently followed a sign that said "terminal access" and drove through a set of automatic double-doors. The woman drove past the baggage claim area before coming to a stop.
