2009 Films

I know this blog is all but dead but I have some time waiting in a hotel for the wife.
I got to see many films during my 30 hour trip here and films I bought while in Thailand.
I'll give some suggestions for 2009 films.
The Best
Sin Nombre------This is a Mexican film by a first time director. Mexico makes the best foreign films besides Korea in my opinion. This is a gang/immigration film and is a movie not easily forgotten. I was looking forward to this for awhile. I often hearing films winning Sundance or Cannes but I cannot see them for another year when they finally come out.
Time Traveller's Wife-----This is the only book in the last 10 years I have read twice. I am very biased towards this film. You may not like it but I loved it.
Julia Julia----Original and excellent. I am glad I saw this.
Let The Right One in----Another film I had to wait a long time to see. I forget the country where this is from, Norway maybe. One of the best vampire films ever made. Hollywood is already making the remake.
Star Trek----Awesome reboot of a dead franchise. I loved the Pike character. This is a Trek film with a real budget. Solid from start to finish. I tried to see this in Imax but it was sold out every night for three weeks.
Inglorious Bastards---This film was full of great directing and amazing acting. The film is a bit crazy and over the top. The actor who played the German bad guy has pretty much locked up the best supporting actor award.
Angels and Demons---Another greatly directed film. This was better than Divinci Code(not the book).
Splinter----Sci fi action at its best. A small dvd only release but a great film.
Time Crimes----Another smaller film. I forget which country this is from. If you can find it you should check it out.
District 9----Don't believe the hype and best picture talk. This film is good but not that good.
State of Play---This is a solid film with a muffled ending. This reminded me of that excellent Tom Cruise film of 2008 (lambs lions or something).
GI Joe---Crazy and awesome. The CGI ending was a drag but most of this film was fun.
Other films I plan on seeing this month...................These all look good.
Orphan
Public enemies
Invictus
Precious
Serious Man
Hunger (my only Korean film here but from one of my favorite directors)
The Road
Lovely Bones
Red Cliff (already the highest Grossing Film ever in China overtaking Titanic)
Avatar

What about PUSH? Have you seen it?
It was pretty good especially the Asian setting and I like Chris Evans as an actor.
