Chumby

I've been away for a bit. If anyone reads this blog I'm sorry about that. Tax season and other issues have kept me busy. To make up for this I am going to telly ou all about the Chumby. You may ask yourself what or who is a Chumby. A Chumby at first glance is a super alarm clock. This is how I first noticed it. I have had my alarm clock since 1983. Thats 25 years! I love my alarm clock and it still works perfectly. I have been on the lookout for a new clock and was reading Forbes this morning. This is when I noticed the Chumby.
To sum it up the Chumby is an LCD screen with a bean bag around it. It has flash memory and USB ports. It also has Wi-fi and a touch screen. This is basically a fully functional computer. The real strength of the Chumby is that you can download hundreds if not thousands of user created widgets. As an example you could have the Chumby wake you up in the morning playing your favorite NPR station (it supports internet radio stations). It would then move to local eather, yahoo calender, e-mail, yahoo sports, Google news, NY times, Slashdot, Woot, etc etc. In the evening it would darken and eventually go to sleep mode. The list of internet radio stations is extensive. This could be the death of satelite radio I am afraid.
So is the Chumby worth buying? I dunno. 179 dollars is a bit steep. Yes you can use it as a digital picture frame as it connects to Flikr etc but I already have a digital picture frame. You can surf the net but I have a computer, laptop and PS3 to do this and on a bigscreen TV not this little 3.5 inch LCD.
I'm not sure if this is worth it. I personally see a lot more uses for this than an I-phone, well maybe not. I guess it's up there for me as cool products that are fun but maybe not a must buy. I may have to get one of these however. Maybe I'll post a review if I get around to it.
Cool things like a widget for I can HAz a Cheezburger are almost good enough to get this.
What I do not know if it supports Yahoo Fantasy Sports and Audible. I know you can plug MP3 players into it.
